I’ve been talking a lot about local businesses and local authors. Today I am branching out a bit and introducing you to indie author, Marguerite (Markie) Madden. She’s not local, but she is pretty awesome!

THANKS FOR TALKING TO ME, MARKIE. PLEASE TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF.
I was born August 19, 1975 in Midland, TX, though I grew up in flushing, Michigan. I graduated high school in 1993 and got married in 1994. I’m currently living in a small farm community just outside Fisk, Missouri (population 326…not kidding!), have two teenage daughters, three rescue dogs, and my horse, Athena, who’s featured on the cover of Keeping a Backyard Horse.

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR LATEST BOOKS. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THEM? WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEAS FOR YOUR PLOTS AND CHARACTERS?
I have three books. Once Upon a Western Way, initially published digitally only via Smashwords in 2012, Keeping a Backyard Horse, and My Butterfly Cancer, both published in print September, 2014 via CreateSpace and digitally for Kindle Direct Publishing. WHAT DISTINGUISHES YOUR BOOKS FROM OTHERS? WHAT’S THE “HOOK” THAT WILL DRAW READERS TO YOUR BOOKS?
Keeping a Backyard Horse, a simple horse care guide, is told and narrated from the point of view of my horse, Athena. It presents facts alongside humorous anecdotes on the horse’s life. My Butterfly Cancer, a memoir, is a raw and harsh view into a year in the life of a cancer patient, including some of the most embarrassing moments. It is meant to be inspiring to anyone with cancer or any life threatening illness. I want to show them that there is light at the end of the tunnel.And Once Upon a Western Way is a novel written to entertain. Without giving spoilers, I can tell you that it has kings, princesses, computers, horses, and epic love!

ARE YOU PLANNING A SEQUEL OR ANOTHER BOOK?
I am working on two projects at the moment. Triple Heist is a crime romance and Fang and Claw is Book One of “The Undead Unit” series. It will be a crime/paranormal series involving vampires, werewolves, zombies, reapers, and maybe even a Wendigo. I’m hoping to have both ready for release late next year. I am also currently working on getting my three published books into audiobook format.

WHAT’S YOUR MARKETING PLAN?
I spend a lot of time on social media. I’ve organized blog interview swaps as well as swaps for reviews with other authors. I’m working on a local book signing in January. I’ve also participated in blog tours for other authors’ book releases.
